Terri-Lynn Penney

Terri-Lynn Penney must be one of the fittest women in Grahamstown. Terri-Lynn has put Grahamstown on the map as far as woman's running is concerned, always representing her club and town well wherever she goes and whatever sport she takes part in. Terri-Lynn represented Eastern Province at the South African 21km championships in 2009 as well as representing EP at the SA triathlon champs in 2010, where she went on to be selected for the SA team to take part in the World Triathlon champs. She also made the EP Duathlon team to take part in the SA Duathlon champs in 2010.

Terri-Lynn is a member of local running club, Run/Walk For Life Athletics Club, where she is also the co-manager.

Terri-Lynn Penney has proved herself as the fastest woman runner in Grahamstown. Terri-Lynn took part in the Andre van Coller Memorial 21km Eastern Province Championships on 9 May, finishing in a personal best time of 1 hour 28 minutes 52 seconds. From this race, she was then selected to represent Eastern Province at the South African 21km championships, which was held in Port Elizabeth on 4 July 2009. Terri-Lynn was the only Grahamstown athlete to be selected as part of the Eastern Province team. Terri-Lynn went on to record her personal best time for the distance, finishing in a time of 1:28:50.

Terri-Lynn was the overall women's winner in the Mountain Drive half marathon, held in Grahamstown on 15 August 2009. Her winning time was 1:32:53, the fastest time by a Grahamstown woman on the course.

Terri-Lynn then went on to win the SMS Direct 27km road race from Bathurst to Port Alfred on 17 October 2009, in a time of 1:56:56, the only woman to break 2 hours on the day. Two weeks later, Terri-Lynn finished second woman at the Builders Warehouse 27km Challenge in Port Elizabeth, in a time of 1:58:29.

Terri-Lynn has also dominated the local fun runs, being the first woman at the Makana Brick 8km fun run, the Rhodes University Athletics Club centenary fun run, the Hospital fun run and the Rapportryers PJ fun run and well as first overall (men and women) at the Rhodes Mile.

Terri-Lynn was the only Grahamstown woman to take part in the 2009 Spec-Savers Ironman 70.3 South Africa, which took place in East London on 18 January. The event was made up of a 1.9km sea swim, 90km cycle and 21km run, which she finished in 6 hours 14 minutes 11 seconds.

Terri-Lynn was also the only Grahamstown woman to take part in the 2009 Spec-Savers Ironman South Africa in Port Elizabeth on 4 April. The event was made up of a 3.8km sea swim, 180km cycle and 42.2km run, which she finished in 13 hours 22 minutes 28 seconds. A week later (11 April) she ran and finished the Two Oceans 56km marathon.

Terri-Lynn has also performed on the Mountain bicycle:

Terri-Lynn was first woman and third overall and first in the women's sub veteran (30-39) category, in the Talisman Pineapple Endurance Cycle Race, 18km mountain biking event which took place on 26 July 2009 at the Shaw Park Country Club near Bathurst. Terri-Lynn finished in 54:34.

Terri-Lynn was first woman finisher (and first in the sub veteran category) at the Kat Mountain Bike 35km challenge in Fort Beaufort on 23 August 2009. She finished in a time of 1:42:26.

Provincial representation

Terri-Lynn Penney represented Eastern Province at the South African triathlon championships in March 2010. Finishing fourth in her age group, and securing her selection as part of the South African team to take part at the Dextro Energy Triathlon ITU World Championships Grand Final which takes place in Budapest, Hungary from 8 to 12 September.
